• closed BloomTech Data Science (formerly Lambda School): California's BPPE Office of Student Assistance and Relief records that BloomTech closed on December 31, 2025 with that date as the last day of instruction; on 2026-10-08 the site is still up but the Data Science and Backend pages read 'Enrollment Paused', Full Stack shows 'Join Waitlist', and the footer copyright still says 2023.
• pivoted Chegg Skills (formerly Thinkful): Thinkful's consumer bootcamps, including Data Analytics, stopped taking direct applicants in 2024: an April 2024 archived homepage still sold them, by June 2024 thinkful.com redirected to Chegg Skills' employer-facing site, and Course Report says applicants now go through Guild.
• paused Codesmith: Checked 2026-10-08: the Software Engineering + AI/ML Immersive page says 'Applications remain open' but publishes no cohort date, stating future Immersive cohorts 'will coincide with' enterprise and government client programs and that 'We anticipate a fall cohort once client timelines are confirmed.' No fall 2026 date was posted as of the check. The homepage leads with a '$118 million IRS OCIO workforce development agreement' and free NYC-resident programs (Future Code NYC starts November 30, 2026; Foundational Launchpad applications due November 6, 2026).
• pivoted Codesmith (prep offerings only): On 2026-10-08 codesmith.io listed no standalone technical-interview-prep course; the former paid CS Prep page (codesmith.io/cs-prep) returned 404 and the individuals page offered only the free Foundational Launchpad (application deadline 2026-11-06), free Future Code NYC, free CSX, the $22,500 immersive, and a $4,595 AI & ML Technical Leadership course.
• closed Columbia Engineering FinTech Boot Camp (edX Boot Camps / 2U): The program URL has redirected since 2024-05-21 and returned 403 by 2024-11-22 per the Wayback Machine; on 2026-10-08 the host presented an expired certificate and a 503. Course Report lists Columbia Engineering Boot Camps as closed and no longer accepting students.
• pivoted Flatiron School (Data Science bootcamp, now AI & Data Science certificate): Flatiron no longer sells a standalone Data Science bootcamp (the course URL returns 404 on 2026-10-08); data content now sits in a part-time 'AI & Data Science' certificate at $14,900 and in work-integrated AI Engineering apprenticeship programs.
• pivoted General Assembly: Regulatory page, read 2026-10-08: 'General Assembly ceased new consumer enrollments on April 28, 2026 and is concluding its consumer course operations for currently enrolled students through an orderly teach-out process.' The company continues as an enterprise training provider inside the Adecco Group (LHH). Course Report: 'General Assembly ceased enrolling consumers on April 28, 2026. It continues to provide training for businesses.'
• closed General Assembly Data Science Immersive (later Data Science Bootcamp): The Data Science Immersive URL began redirecting to a renamed 'Data Science Bootcamp' page on 2024-01-19 (Wayback Machine), and General Assembly 'ceased new consumer enrollments on April 28, 2026' with a teach-out for enrolled students; on 2026-10-08 the old URL shows 'Course not available' and GA sells only enterprise training.
• pivoted Hello Interview: Hello Interview wound down its paid 1:1 mock interview and mentorship programs on May 31, 2026 and now sells only self-serve Premium content with AI-guided practice.
• paused LinkedIn REACH Apprenticeship: On 2026-10-08 the page reads 'No longer accepting applications for the April 2026 cohort. Please check back in mid 2026 for hiring information for the next cohort'; no new window had been posted.
• pivoted Simplilearn AI & ML programs (formerly Caltech CTME AI & ML Bootcamp and Purdue PGP in AI & ML): The Caltech CTME AI & Machine Learning Bootcamp page (simplilearn.com/ai-machine-learning-bootcamp) was last archived live in April 2025 and now 301-redirects to a category page, and the Purdue 'Post Graduate Program in AI and Machine Learning' URL (last archived live Feb 2026 as a Purdue 'Professional Certificate') redirects since about March 2026; on 2026-10-08 Simplilearn instead sells AI/ML certificates branded with Michigan Engineering (cohort induction 14 Oct 2026, classes 7 Nov 2026), UCSB PaCE ('Announcing Soon'), Virginia Tech, IIT Kanpur and IIT (BHU).
• pivoted Springboard Machine Learning Engineering and AI Bootcamp (formerly Machine Learning Engineering Career Track): As of 2026-10-08 the old /courses/machine-learning-engineering-career-track/ URL returns Springboard's not-found page; the program is now listed as 'Machine Learning Engineering and AI Bootcamp', co-branded with University of Arizona Continuing and Professional Education, and the partner page it links to shows 'Apply by: To be announced' with no published tuition.

How to choose

Start from your current job, not the brochure. If you are already a software engineer, the cheapest useful options are cohort courses from practitioners (Maven, AI Makerspace) or self-paced material (fast.ai, DeepLearning.AI), and you should budget your own time for interview prep because none of them cover it. If you are changing careers, look only at programs that publish audited outcomes with a cohort size, a definition of 'placed', and a date. Ignore the university logo on a Great Learning or Simplilearn page; the university licenses content and brand, and admissions and support are run by the vendor. The common mistake is paying $10,000 or more for a program whose syllabus is a reshuffled version of free Coursera courses, then discovering that the 'ML engineer' roles it targets expect several years of software engineering first.
