Quant trading prep programs: certificates, free degrees, firm-run events, and what the FTC has sued

This category covers paid certificates, a free accredited degree, question-bank subscriptions, and the free invite-only programs trading firms run to find interns. None of them is a bootcamp with a job guarantee, and the firms that hire quant researchers, traders and developers do not treat any certificate as a credential. The programs suit people who need structured math, programming or practice volume before a quant interview, and students who qualify for a firm's own pipeline.

This directory takes no lead fees or placement payments from any program. Where a program runs an affiliate scheme we say so on its page and mark the link. Facts carry a badge: verified means we read it on a primary source on the date shown, reported means a third party said it, unknown means nobody we trust has published it.

How to choose

Start from the job. Quant trader and researcher screens test probability, brainteasers, mental math and statistics under time pressure; quant developer screens test C++ or Python and data structures. Match the program to that: a question bank or firm event for traders, a C++ certificate or a backtesting project for developers, a free degree or Coursera audit if the gap is theory. Check the price on the program's own page on the day you buy, since EPAT and CQF tier fees by enrollment date and WSO runs a permanent countdown. Ask for refund terms in writing; EPAT publishes a no-refund policy, CQF publishes none. Ignore partner-logo walls and salary ceilings. The common mistake is paying $20,000 for a certificate when the interview was always going to be a probability quiz.

claims that do not hold up

Watch for '300+ hiring partners' with no list of who hired whom, salary claims phrased as 'up to $200,000' with no distribution, and employer logos placed next to testimonials to imply partnerships. The CQF's $23,000 to $25,000 US fee buys content, not access; r/quant threads are skeptical about its pull at top firms. 'Learn to trade' companies are a separate hazard: the FTC sued Online Trading Academy (settled September 2020, over $5.4 million refunded) and RagingBull (March 2022 order, $2.425 million) over earnings claims.
