Interview prep programs for working engineers: a dated status ledger
These are paid products that promise to get an engineer who already has a job through the next coding, system design and behavioral loop: coached cohorts like Interview Kickstart and Formation, pay-per-session mock marketplaces like interviewing.io and Prepfully, and self-paced question banks from LeetCode Premium up to ByteByteGo. They suit people with at least a year of experience and a target company in mind, not career changers who still need fundamentals.
This directory takes no lead fees or placement payments from any program. Where a program runs an affiliate scheme we say so on its page and mark the link. Facts carry a badge: verified means we read it on a primary source on the date shown, reported means a third party said it, unknown means nobody we trust has published it.
Status ledger
- pivoted Codesmith (prep offerings only): On 2026-10-08 codesmith.io listed no standalone technical-interview-prep course; the former paid CS Prep page (codesmith.io/cs-prep) returned 404 and the individuals page offered only the free Foundational Launchpad (application deadline 2026-11-06), free Future Code NYC, free CSX, the $22,500 immersive, and a $4,595 AI & ML Technical Leadership course.
- pivoted Hello Interview: Hello Interview wound down its paid 1:1 mock interview and mentorship programs on May 31, 2026 and now sells only self-serve Premium content with AI-guided practice.
- paused Outco: On 2026-10-08 outco.io served only a one-page marketing site (testimonials dated 2016-2019, salary figures "as of 2021", copyright 2024, sitemap last modified 2025-01-29) with no application, pricing, FAQ or cohort page (all return 404) and a contact page listing only [email protected].
- closed Pathrise: Springshare announced on 2025-10-21 that it acquired Pathrise's assets and that the mentorship program was winding down to cease by the end of 2025; Springshare's FAQ says Pathrise "will be discontinuing its direct-to-consumer services at the end of 2025", and on 2026-10-08 www.pathrise.com returned a Cloudflare Error 1014 page instead of a website.
- pivoted Taro: As of 2026-10-08 Taro Premium is still sold at $79/month or $19/month billed yearly, but the company was acquired by Handshake (announcement on Handshake's news blog, undated; YC lists Taro as Acquired) and its community now feeds Handshake AI's paid 'Software Engineer Talent Network'.
How to choose
Start from the loop you are facing, not the product. If you fail coding screens, a question bank with a judge (LeetCode Premium, NeetCode) plus a few paid mocks covers it for under $500. If you fail onsites, the gap is usually system design or behavioral, and that is where live mocks with a real interviewer earn their price. Look for a published syllabus with hours, a stated mock-interview count, a refund window you can read before paying, and a price on the website. Ignore average-salary and comp-increase figures with no denominator, struck-through list prices, and countdown timers. The common mistake is buying a $10,000 cohort to fix a problem that twenty mock interviews at $179 to $250 each would have exposed and fixed for a third of the cost.
Outcome claims in this category are almost never audited. Interview Kickstart advertises a $300,000+ average salary and a 60%+ increase but publishes no denominator, no methodology and no tuition; its 50% money-back guarantee requires onsite interviews at six companies and a claim within 30 days. Formation says plainly that its outcomes page is a curated set, not a statistical sample. Every self-paced product on this list shows a struck list price next to a standing sale price, and some have run the same sale for years. Treat all of these as marketing, not data.
