aha

the aha rating is basically how much of this question is a trick. one exclamation point means its not a trick at all. five exclamation points means its only a trick.

examples:
aha:!

what's the sum of the numbers from 1 to 1,000?

add 1000 + 0, 999 + 1, 998 + 2, etc.. you get 1000 every time right down to 499 + 501. that is 500 sets of 1000, so 500 * 1000 = 500,000 plus the final 500 right in the middle that doesn't have a partner. 500,500

aha:!!!!!

a plane crashes on the border between canada and the u.s.. where should we bury the survivors?

you don't bury survivors.

aha questions have no place in an interview. they don't test whether the candidate can take you through a process, or understand an algorithm. they only test whether they've heard the question before. hence, you won't see any !!!!! questions here. (unless they're funny.)

read the FAQ for more info.
