Start from the loop you are failing, not the product. If coding screens are the problem, a question bank with a judge (NeetCode Pro at $119 a year, or a single month of LeetCode Premium at $35) plus two mock interviews at about $179 each lands under $500. A $5,000-plus coached cohort is only worth it for a documented pattern of onsite failures, not a first attempt. Everything below reflects each program's own site in early October 2026; prices marked gated are not published and come from third parties only.

The useful question is not which program is best. It is which part of the loop keeps ending your candidacy, because the three kinds of paid [interview prep programs](/bootcamp_directory/interview-prep/) fix different failures and cost amounts that differ by two orders of magnitude. Pay-per-session mock marketplaces sell single interviews in the low hundreds. Self-paced question banks run $35 a month to a few hundred a year. Coached cohorts start at $5,000 and climb to $20,000. Buying the wrong tier is the standard mistake here: a $10,000 cohort to fix a problem that a handful of mock interviews would have exposed for a fraction of the price.

These products suit people who already have at least a year of experience and a target company in mind. They cover general software-engineering loops: coding screens, system design, and behavioral rounds. Quant and high-frequency-trading prep is a separate market these programs do not specialize in, so trader and researcher candidates should look elsewhere. If you are a career changer who still needs fundamentals, a prep program is the wrong first spend; read [how to choose a coding bootcamp](/post/3233477751/choose-se-bootcamp/) instead. Prices below are what each site showed in early October 2026, read on October 8. Where a company does not publish a price, this piece says so and cites only third-party figures.

## What changed since you last compared these

This is a market where the marketing outlives the program, so start with what is gone. [Pathrise](/bootcamp_directory/p/pathrise/) closed at the end of 2025 after selling its software to Springshare; former fellows are still dealing with the income-share loans that a 2024 class action, Solorzano v. Mavenform, challenges as unregistered lending. [Outco](/bootcamp_directory/p/outco/) is a shell: its enrollment, pricing and application pages all 404 and the newest testimonial on the site is dated July 2019, so treat it as dormant until the company confirms a cohort by email. [Hello Interview](/bootcamp_directory/p/hello-interview/) ended its 1:1 human mock and mentorship program on May 31, 2026, and is now an AI-guided question bank rather than a place to book a real interviewer. Exponent renamed itself [Aced](/bootcamp_directory/p/aced/) during 2026. [Taro](/bootcamp_directory/p/taro/) was acquired by Handshake in 2026 and is a career-growth community first, with interview prep a minority of its catalog. [Codesmith](/bootcamp_directory/p/codesmith-prep/)'s paid CS Prep course is gone; its page now returns a 404. A review-star average tells you none of this, because reviews keep accumulating for years after a program stops teaching.

## Pay-per-session mocks: for the gap you cannot self-diagnose

[interviewing.io](/bootcamp_directory/p/interviewing-io/), [Prepfully](/bootcamp_directory/p/prepfully/) and [IGotAnOffer](/bootcamp_directory/p/igotanoffer/) sell single live mock interviews with a real interviewer plus written feedback. interviewing.io starts at $179 a session, more for an interviewer from a specific company or a senior level. Prepfully's coaches charge $169 to $679 depending on who you book, with most featured coaches between $249 and $419. IGotAnOffer works on credits that run roughly $100 to $250 per one-hour session. This tier earns its price on the failures you cannot see yourself: a system design round that wanders, a behavioral answer that lands wrong, an onsite rejection pattern you cannot name. We rank the live platforms against each other in our guide to [mock interview platforms](/post/3233474681/mock-interview-platforms/), so this piece does not re-rank them. The rule is to buy a mock when you need a diagnosis, not a curriculum.

## Coached cohorts: structure and accountability, at a price

[Formation](/bootcamp_directory/p/formation/) and [Interview Kickstart](/bootcamp_directory/p/interview-kickstart/) are the two large multi-week coached programs. Formation publishes its pricing: $5,000 is the down payment you owe if you are not placed, and if you are placed it rises to $7,500 to $20,000 total through a capped portion of salary gain of $2,500 to $15,000 on top of that down payment. There is also a $2,500-a-month membership you can cancel. Its syllabus is the deepest in the directory, scoring 5 of 5 on the prep-depth audit for adaptive daily drills plus live mocks across 16 interview types, which include hiring-manager and behavioral rounds, so an engineering-manager candidate is not limited to the coding tracks. Interview Kickstart publishes no price anywhere on its site; the cost page routes you to a webinar or an advisor call. Third-party listings put full tracks at $4,900 to $9,600 (SwitchUp) and one 2026 Reddit commenter wrote that "it costs 13 grand," so treat any firm number as unconfirmed. We go deep on each in [is Formation worth it](/post/3233477727/formation-worth-it/) and [is Interview Kickstart worth it](/post/3233477729/interview-kickstart-worth-it/). A cohort at this price only makes sense once you have a documented pattern: several onsites reached, several rejections, and a specific weakness that self-study and a few mocks did not close. For a first attempt it is almost always the wrong buy.

## Self-paced question banks: the usual first purchase

For coding-screen rejections, a question bank with a built-in judge is the cheapest effective thing to buy. [LeetCode Premium](/bootcamp_directory/p/leetcode-premium/) is $35 a month or $159 a year and adds company-tagged question lists, which is the feature people actually pay for; buying one month against a scheduled onsite is a common move. [NeetCode Pro](/bootcamp_directory/p/neetcode-pro/) is $119 a year or $297 lifetime, with flash sales reported as low as $47. [AlgoExpert](/bootcamp_directory/p/algoexpert/) sells a seven-product bundle for $119 a year, shown struck from $693 under a countdown timer; we weigh the two directly in [LeetCode Premium vs AlgoExpert](/post/3233476394/leetcode-premium-vs-algoexpert-worth-it/). For system design, where the [best system design course](/post/3233475470/best-system-design-course/) comparison goes deeper, [ByteByteGo](/bootcamp_directory/p/bytebytego/) is $189 a year or $499 lifetime from the author of the System Design Interview books, and [Grokking](/bootcamp_directory/p/grokking-educative-design-gurus/), sold through Design Gurus and Educative, runs from about $59 a month to a $1,149 lifetime bundle. Hello Interview now belongs in this tier too, at $47 a month, $78 a year or $275 lifetime, after dropping its human mocks. Aced, formerly Exponent, is $12 to $20 a month on an annual plan with 1:1 coaching sold separately at $249 a session. Taro is $19 a month billed annually but is weighted toward career growth rather than interview drills.

## What to ignore

Outcome claims in this category are almost never audited. Interview Kickstart advertises a $300,000-plus average salary and a 60-percent-plus increase with no denominator, no methodology and no published tuition. Formation states plainly that its outcomes page is "a curated set of actual Fellow placements ... not a statistical sample" and that some of the data is self-reported or unaudited. Every self-paced product on this list shows a struck list price next to a standing sale price, and some have run the same discount for years: ByteByteGo's "launch sale" banner sits on a site whose copyright dates to 2022. Ignore countdown timers, struck prices, and any comp-increase figure without a denominator. Read instead for a published syllabus with hours, a stated mock-interview count, a price on the website, and a refund window you can read before paying. Formation's own pricing page and FAQ disagree on whether the upfront payment is refundable, so get that term in writing before you send money.

## When free is enough

Most of what these products sell exists free on this site. The [coding patterns catalog](/coding-patterns-catalog/) collects, on one page, the patterns a question bank drills you on. The [system design interview guides](/system-design-interview-guides/) cover the same case studies ByteByteGo and Grokking charge for. The [interview prompt library](/interview_prompt_library/) gives you prompts to run practice rounds against an AI interviewer, which is what Hello Interview and the AI tiers of Prepfully and Aced now sell. The [cheat sheets](/cheat-sheets/) cover the reference material, and the [resume guides](/category/resume/) handle the part no cohort does well. If you have never done a structured review, start free with a [study plan](/study-plan/), find the loop you actually fail, then spend narrowly on that one thing.

The money should follow the diagnosis, not precede it. A month of LeetCode Premium at $35, two mocks at $179, and Formation's $299 Diagnostic (a 60-minute system design mock, credited against the Fellowship if you upgrade within 90 days) will tell you more about where you are losing offers than a $10,000 enrollment agreement signed on the strength of a webinar.
